Namibia - home of JCS Seafood Namibia

Namibia has one of the most productive fishing grounds in the world, due primarily to the presence of the Benguela current.

Up-welling caused by the current brings nutrient rich waters up from the depths that stimulate the growth of microscopic marine organisms.

These in turn support rich populations of fish, which form the basis of a vibrant marine fisheries sector along the Namibian coast line. Similar to other up-welling systems in the world's fishing waters, relatively few species dominate and their abundance can vary greatly in response to changing environmental conditions.

Since Independence in 1990, the fishing industry has grown to become one of the pillars of the Namibian economy. The rich fishing waters abound in horse mackerel, hake, pilchard, monkfish, kingklip, deep-sea red crab, tunas, orange roughy, alphonsino, rock lobster, swordfish and anchovy.
